Our History |
Find out here about where we've come from and who has made us who we are.
Strathmore Park School was established in 1947. In 2004, this name was changed to Strathmore Community School, to reflect the school belonging to the community. Past students and staff"Hi there :) . Keanu and Patena
"I enjoyed the visiting dance groups and puppet shows that were held at the 'Brownie Hall' (up the road). We had fun school fairs and I enjoyed the mobile library. Here is one of my favourite teachers, Mr Nicholson. He played the piano and taught me the old war tunes: 'After the ball is over', 'If you knew Susie', 'It's a long way to Tipperary', etc. I was very inspired by his passion for music, and to this day (30 years later) I still remember every single word."
Vanila Ekenasio (student 1971 to '76)
"Hi, I'm Lachlan Farquhar. I am an ex-pupil of SCS and I attended in 2005 for my Year 6 year. My parents and I chose this school because it was close to where we live, and also the kids and teachers were so friendly and welcoming. It was a small school where everybody knew each other, and I made some good friends there. We did fun stuff like painting banners which were put up along the street by the shops. I really liked the computers, and I also took part in the school production." Lachlan
"It's good to see your thorough website. I was born in Wellington, lived in Strathmore Park, Wadestown and Newtown, and moved to Levin when I was 34. "I went to Strathmore Park School from January 1952 to December 1954 and can remember many good times. My favourite teacher was lovely Miss Hickey. She always spoke kindly and encouraged us. "Another lady who had been a teacher came back to see the pupils and said what a good painting I had done of a house in my first week there. "We all sat in an enlarged classroom one day made by opening a dividing wall of folding doors. It was to hear, on the large valve radio, that the King had died and they curiously said long live the King as is traditionally said. The flag went to half mast. A year later we all were given a coronation medal with blue ribbon and a foldout display card of the Royal Coach procession. We were called a side school to Miramar South School where we walked down to the swimming pool." Richard Tingey
